In a court of law, the victim is often allowed to make a statement about the harm that was done by a crime. This allows the jury and judge to weigh in on appropriate action to be taken. It also allows the victim an opportunity to confront the abuser with the damage caused by the crime. Imagine, if you can, what it feels like when the offense is great but no one seems to care. That is what happens when the Church protects abusers instead of repenting, offering a helping hand in retribution, and confronting the real abuse of power that allowed such crimes to occur. What was your experience when you made your victim statement? Were you heard? Did you feel any progress was made in the recent Vatican church synod?
